Top Five Accessories For Your Garage

When you think “accessories” , things like scarves, belts, shoes and ties or purses may come to mind. Accessories make the man (or woman), they say. They bring your outfit together and make you look well put-together In your garage, the accessories that you choose work the same way. They help your garage function well and, in many cases, help it look more put-together. While you might not have considered garage organization accessories in the past, once you start looking, you will find that there are dozens, if not hundreds, of products that you could purchase in order to accessorize your garage. Here are five of the most useful garage accessories :

1. Bike Rack

Do you have bicycles? Most families do, and the problem comes when it’s time to store them. Picture opening your garage door on a nice summer day and not finding several of the kids’ bikes strewn all over the place, just waiting for you to run them over with your car. Or, even better, imagine opening your car door and not having a bike topple onto you, denting the car door or scratching your shins. This reality can be yours when you have a bike rack. The bikes will be up and out of the way, and won’t damage each other, your vehicle, or you. Of course, most of the battle will be getting the kids to remember to use the bike racks, but once that’s done, the bike rack will be your favorite garage accessory!

2. Wall Hooks

All sorts of things in the garage can be stored on hooks. How about hanging up the snowsuits after the kids play outside in the winter? Let them drip-dry in the garage instead of in the house. You can also keep small gardening tools on them, or even rakes and brooms.

3. Floor Mats

If you have plain concrete garage flooring, you might have considered upgrading to epoxy floors or interlocking floor tiles. If you’re not quite ready to take that step, there is a solution: Garage floor mats. These rubberized mats are great for laying on while you change the oil in your car or do other car chores that require you to lay down on the ground. They will also help save your tools by acting as a padding that is a lot more forgiving than solid concrete!

4. Workbench

No matter how much work you actually do in your garage, a workbench is nearly essential. These give you a work surface that is convenient for just about any job, even if it’s just drawing the blueprints for a birdhouse that you plan to build with your kids. Workbenches also give you a place to store your tools so that they’re not floating around the garage willy-nilly. You can buy these out of a box, or you can build your own to your exact specifications.

5. Fire Extinguisher

One vital safety tip when it comes to the garage is to have a fire extinguisher handy! You should have one in your kitchen as well, but let’s face it: Many of us don’t. Having an extinguisher in the garage is better than nothing. Also, even if you do have one in your kitchen, keep a second in the garage. When you’re working with power tools, your car and various flammable liquids (hopefully not all at the same time), accidents can happen. You can prevent tragedy and massive property damage by being sure to have a fire extinguisher handy.

Depending on what you store in your garage, some other garage accessories that you might consider include can racks, ball bags, fishing racks and a slatwall system for hanging various items. Take a good look at the accessories available and make your choices based on the way that you use your garage.
